Come join us as we hear from Akil Murthi, son of IWA member Asha Murthi, about his fascinating venture into the world of hydroponics and the intricacies of growing soil-less plants. Akil has his own hydroponics company which he started in 2014.

Women, Power and Authority in Ancient India; Making sense of the Contradictions
When it comes to women, ancient Indian texts often display a bewildering array of contradictory ideas and attitudes. This talk will discuss the representation and realities of the relationship between women, power and authority in ancient India by focusing on a few sources, namely Vedic texts, the Manu Smriti, early Buddhist Texts and Inscriptions.
Dr.Upinder Singh a historian of great repute argues that it is important to try to understand why the sources speak in so many different voices instead of using them to construct, simplistic and inaccurate images of women’s lives in ancient India.Dr.Singh comes from an illustrious family; she is the daughter of
Dr.Manmohan Singh, the former Prime Minister of India. She is an alumnus of St.Stephen’s College Delhi and has received her Ph.D from McGill University, Canada.
