Chennai City Resilience Strategy
No
single image or story captures the city of Chennai. Experiences overlap,
refract and reflect to form an ever-changing collage of the city’s struggles
and triumphs. Classical and contemporary, rich and poor, acceptance
and aggression, discipline and disregard, floods and drought,
concrete and greenery, all come together to give you a city with
a history and a future. This,
then, is the path to building resilience in our city. As we move into the
future, we need a city strategy that considers and respects these many
truths, embracing diverse conditions and needs. A strategy that makes
our city enlightened and integrated.Resilient
Chennai is the Chennai city chapter of 100 Resilient Cities (100RC),
a program pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation. 100RC is
an organization that helps cities around the world become more
resilient
to the physical, social and economic challenges that are a growing
part of the 21st century. Chennai’s
Resilience Strategy 2019 was prepared by a team headed by
the city’s Chief Resilience Officer, Mr. Krishna Mohan Ramachandran. He will highlight the shocks and stresses
facing the
city,
preparedness of the city and the lack of it, and future course of action.
